Perth’s architectural landscape is quite modern, starting from the 1970s. This encompasses that early era’s brutalist inspired monoliths to the more abstract designs that have become popular globally. I’ve curated some of my favourite shots that I’ve taken in this city over the past few years, where I’ve focused on capturing scale, modernity and geometry.
Equipment Used
- Sony ILCE-6000 (α6000)
- Sigma 56mm F1.4 DG DN Contemporary Lens
- Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN Art Series Lens
- Sigma 19mm f2.8 DN Art Series Lens
The Sony α6000 came out in 2014, and despite its age, the camera’s high performance APS-C sensor still provides more than enough image quality for online distribution. The camera has a compact, uniform body that makes both carrying and packing it easy for a daily-use camera and for holidays. I think that making sure you always have your camera with you will make sure you are constantly shooting and developing your skill and techniques.
I have added three of Sigma’s native E-Mount prime lenses to my collection. These were specifically designed for APS-C sensors and hence are considerably smaller, lighter, and cheaper than their full frame sensor equivalents. The sharpness and image quality from these prime lenses is very high, especially for their price, versus what you’d need to pay to get this performance from a zoom lens. I don’t see myself needing to upgrade for quite some time with this set up.
