Tokyo Nightscapes: Dark Realism

Suzuki is an avid photographer from Tokyo with an impressive digital camera set up. Living in the city, he provides a perspective different from the kind of tourist forays we may be accustomed to on social media. His work is dark and often gritty but maintains an exceptional level of detail and realism.

I primarily focus on capturing landscapes and urban scenes. For this project, however, my focus will be entirely on urban snapshots.

My photographic style tends towards cyberpunk, yet it’s crucial that I avoid becoming overly influenced by this genre. Granted, Tokyo – where I operate – exudes a distinct cyberpunk vibe in comparison to other major international cities.

Nonetheless, it’s not all-encompassing. The city’s back alleys provide the quintessential cyberpunk visuals, but when photographing food, I strive to retain a certain warmth.

Tokyo is an expansive city, teeming with diverse scenes waiting to be discovered and photographed.

Looking forward, we anticipate a myriad of captivating experiences that we can’t wait to share through our work. We hope you’re as excited as we are about our future explorations.

Equipment Used

  • Fujifilm GFX100s

The GFX100s was introduced as the more compact counterpart to the GFX100. Its size has been reduced nearly to that of DSLRs and the Panasonic S1 series, while it still maintains almost identical specifications. This is crucial for street photography enthusiasts as it’s easy to carry, convenient to use, and non-intrusive.

The GFX100s features a medium-format 100-megapixel sensor, offering extraordinary resolution and dynamic range. It’s probably only PhaseOne’s sensor that can compete with it. Moreover, despite being a medium-format camera, its autofocus (AF) performance is ample enough for snapshot photography.

I am highly satisfied with this camera. However, for my water sports photography needs, I might consider purchasing a Canon in the future.
